Brussels, Orlando, Nice, Munich…is London next? #pray4uk #pray4london

I had sent this blog to a Christian ministry in July 2016. They did not publish it. By the time they got back to me, it felt like the moment had passed. But here it is…

As the brutal machine of terrorism in the name of ISIS roars it’s way, making followers willing to die and kill Muslims and non-Muslims, children and soldiers indiscriminately- we can begin to feel helpless…but are we really helpless?

The bible says O Jerusalem, I have posted watchmen on your walls; they will pray day and night, continually (Isaiah 62:6).

What if we did this together? If we all took turns to form an invisible “spiritual wall” around Britain? What if we TOGETHER covered it in prayer “day and night, continually”?

I’m reminded of a similar situation when Jerusalem had no walls, and it’s people were easy targets for their enemies. A government official called Nehemiah went about building a wall to change all that. But even before the wall was finished, the attacks began.

So a different kind of wall went up – one of human beings, spiritual beings whom God had given authority to.

Nehemiah 4:8-9, 16-17 They all made plans to come and fight against Jerusalem and throw us into confusion. But we prayed to our God and guarded the city day and night to protect ourselves. But from then on, only half my men worked while the other half stood guard with spears, shields, bows, and coats of mail.

I love the corporate-ness of this scripture!

It wasn’t just the professional builders who built – the butcher the baker the candlestick maker did. Second, it wasn’t just the “intercessors” (the watchmen) who guarded – they all did!

I am drawn to the “democracy of prayer” – that it requires no additional calling or gifting. Every Christian is called to pray! (1 Timothy 2:8). Although for a few their calling is prayer (e.g. Anna the prophetess).

Isaiah 56:6 says “My house (meaning everybody who makes up God’s house, aka the church) shall be known as a house of prayer”.

Prayer is the privilege and duty of every born-again child of God!

Taking inspiration from these bible passages, my friend Pastor Jonathan Oloyede and I are trying to build a wall around our nation.

Each of us need only do what we can. Commit to praying 5 minutes a week*, or 3 hours.

Our vision is to inspire 1 million Christians to pray faithfully for the UK! Both prayer warriors and prayer virgins to form an invisible but unbroken, impenetrable spiritual wall around us all.

*We especially need people praying between 1-4 am and between 9am to 6.30 pm :))
